Dellas Cole

Dellas Cole is one of the “deans” of ESD Conference, and high school sportscasting across South Dakota – having completed thirty-plus years as “Voice of the Bobcats”! His career got an early boost when the Brookings girls’ basketball teams of the mid-1980’s worked their way to a number three ranking nationally by USA Today. Since then, he’s called numerous state football and basketball championships. Over the years, DC’s also called volleyball, wrestling, hockey and other sports.

Dellas was the first South Dakota sportscaster to originate a live broadcast from a state high school volleyball tournament and also did the play-by-play for the first live telecast of a hockey game in the state.  He also spent a season as the play-by-play announcer for South Dakota State University baseball, and, over the years, has provided live coverage of Jackrabbit women’s basketball, softball and soccer. Among his collegiate credits – he followed the Jackrabbit women’s basketball team through three Division II North Central Regional tournaments.

Dellas’ “call it down the middle” style has gained the trust and respect of coaches, players and fans.  He’s been selected for induction into the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association’s “Hall of Shrine”, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the South Dakota High School Activities Association. He’s also been named Sportscaster of the Year by the high school coaches’ association, and by the state’s sportscasters and sportswriters.
