Figures released today by the South Dakota Board of Regents show 12,589 students are enrolled at South Dakota State University, an increase of 32 students from last year.
Overall undergraduate enrollment increased by 52 students from last year with 10,844 students enrolled.
Figures also show 2,222 first-time freshmen enrolled for the fall semester, the university’s sixth-largest freshman class.
According to President David Chicoine, the enrollment figures match well with goals and performance indicators of IMPACT 2018, the university’s five-year strategic plan.
Overall graduate student enrollment declined minimally from 1,279 last year to 1,261. This year’s graduate enrollment reflects 960 master’s students and 301 Ph.D. students.
Fall enrollment at South Dakota’s six public universities remained essentially flat compared to last year, dropping just one-quarter of one percent.
Total headcount at the six public universities was 36,439, a decrease of a quarter of a percent over last year.
