Arbor Day is a Friday, April 25 -- and the city of Brookings is planning a number of special events to commemorate the day. Pete Colson is Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry for the city of Brookings. He says one of the big events will be the annual Kay Cheever Arbor Day Run. There will also be a ceremonial tree planting out at the Dakota Nature Park. And then, they'll also be giving away some trees to local Third Graders. Colson says in total they'll be giving away around 500 trees throughout the many events planned. He also says, all in all, Brookings is doing a pretty good job of maintaining a healthy, natural environment full of plenty of trees.
