Former hospital in Hoven to become temporary school
HOVEN, S.D. (AP) - A former hospital in Hoven will get new life as a temporary school.
Officials have decided to house students there during the next school year as they work to rebuild the junior and senior high school that was destroyed in a May 25 fire. Investigators believe the blaze began in the attic above the gymnasium. They don't suspect foul play.
Holy Infant Hospital closed in 2010. It's across the street from Hoven's elementary school. Superintendent Pat Jones says that the building's location was a factor in the decision, along with the fact that little work has to be done to get it ready.
The other option was to bring in portable classrooms. Jones says that would have required more work, including installing water and sewer lines.
