RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Two South Dakota Army National Guard
units and a Black Hills area physician are being deployed to
Afghanistan next year.
The Guard says the Vermillion-based 730th Area Support Medical
Company, the Rapid City-based 1978th Contingency Contracting Team,
and Maj. David Lauer of Sturgis have received official mobilization
orders.
Lauer will leave in January to serve as a field surgeon. The 48
members of the 730th will deploy in July, and the four members of
the 1978th will leave next November.
