A Brookings man is given five years in prison with another five suspended
for discharging a firearm into an occupied structure.

Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Halvorson of Brookings was charged in a January
incident for firing a 12-gauge shotgun into an appartment.

Halvorson fired the gun at the door of the apartment. There were four people
inside at the time, two of whom were hit by either shrapnel from the door or
pellets from the gun. They received minor injuries that did not require medical
treatment.

Halvorson had been facing numerous charges but pleaded guilty last month
to the single count.

He must also pay restitution of 19-hundred dollars and pay his court appointed
attorney fees.
