A heat wave is headed for the Brookings area this
weekend and could possibly stick around for a
while.
Kerry Hanko, a meteorologist for the National
Weather Service in Sioux Falls, says the heat could
last into the early part of next week. She says it'll start
Friday with a heat index going over 100 degrees.
Hanko gives advice on how to handle the hot
temperatures by staying inside with the air conditioner
on or when people head outside the best time would be
early mornings or whenever the sun goes up or down.
She says it could cool off sometime next week around
Wednesday.
July is the warmest month in Brookings by average.
The highest recorded temerature for the city is
109-degrees back in July of 1940.
