Minnesota man convicted of kidnapping SD woman

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A federal jury has convicted a Minnesota man accused of assaulting a South Dakota woman and locking her in a bedroom.

The U.S. attorney's office says Robert Ford, of Pipestone, Minn., was found guilty Thursday of kidnapping by confinement. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.

The 37-year-old victim, a resident of Flandreau, reported that the 41-year-old Ford assaulted her and confined her to a bedroom in her own house by barricading the door. Ford reportedly fled the scene after other residents in the home heard sounds of a struggle.

A sentencing date has not been set.
