More Teachers Certified

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Fifteen South Dakota teachers received board
certification this year, one of the highest credentials in the
teaching profession.
This brings the total number of teachers who are board certified
in the state to 89.
Certification is a voluntary process and achieved through
performance-based assessments that demonstrate how a teacher's
activities improve student achievement.
South Dakota Secretary of Education Melody Schopp says the 15
teachers deserve to be congratulated. She says receiving national
board certification is a rigorous and comprehensive process and
shows a commitment not only to student learning, but also a
commitment to their own growth as teachers.
