The Brookings City Council explores the possibility of a municipal bus system during this week's study session. The SDSU Student Association and the city recently split the cost of hiring a municipal tranist consultant -- ob Bourne of Ames, Iowa. He says he's seen similar sized cities and universities implement municipal busing. Ben Stout is the outgoing SDSU Student Association President, and he says there is a demand on campus for a busing system. Brenda Schweitzer is executive director of BATA -- which is a non-profit rather than a municipally-run transit system here in Brookings. She says they support the idea of a municipal busing system for campus if the demand is there. Bourne will present the city with a summar document of his recommendations on Friday. The city council will then continue discussions during future meetings.
