One dead, several injured in Rapid City police pursuit

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Authorities say a passenger in a car that was being pursued by deputies in Rapid City died at the scene after the car crashed into three other vehicles.

Rapid City police say the accident happened about 9:30 p.m. Friday, after a report that the driver of a 2005 Chevy Impala was trying to run other vehicles off the road.

Pennington County deputies were pursuing the Impala for less than two minutes when the collision occurred. A passenger in the Impala was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities say the driver of the Impala and one other passenger were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The drivers of the other three vehicles were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
