CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. (AP) - Prosecutors say they will decide within a week whether to seek the death penalty against a man accused of killing a Mitchell woman, should he be convicted of the crime.
Thirty-six-year-old Kent Davidson is accused of fatally shooting 26-year-old Crystal Schulz in the head with a shotgun on March 11. Her body was found three days later in a shed at her mother's residence in rural Chamberlain. Davidson and Schulz were engaged to be married.
Davidson has pleaded not guilty to murder, manslaughter and weapons charges. His trial is scheduled for next January.
Davidson already has been sentenced to five years in prison for failing to return to a minimum-security facility where he was living while on parole last year.
