RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Bond has been set at $500,000 for a Rapid City man accused of killing a 2-year-old girl after her mother left the child with him.
Edward Berges has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the case.
Rapid City police found the girl Wednesday night after they got a call about a medical emergency.
The child was taken to hospital in Rapid City, and then flown to Sanford Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls. She died Thursday.
Police say the 23-year-old Berger is the boyfriend of the girl's mother. They say they began investigating the case right away because the girl was badly injured when she was found.
