BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota State University will soon begin offer a new tribal studies major.
The Board of Regents last month approved the new bachelor of arts in tribal studies at SDSU. SDSU is the third university in the state to offer such a major. The other schools are the University of South Dakota and Black Hills State University.
Richie Meyers is SDSU's American Indian Studies program coordinator. He says the major should be rolled out this fall with up 30 students.
He says many of the students enrolled in the American Indian Studies minor will probably gravitate toward the major.
SDSU has the largest tribal student population among the state's six public universities.
