SUMMIT SCORING… The Summit League has five players among the NCAA's Top 15 in scoring average, more than any other Division I conference. IUPUI's Alex Young owned the nation's highest single-game scoring total this season (43) for nearly a month and is currently tied for second while Oakland's Reggie Hamilton is tied for fourth (41).
Young remains as the top active scorer in Division I basketball with 2,085 points to rank seventh on The Summit League's all-time list.
SDSU WRESTLING… The South Dakota State wrestling team returns home for its second Western Wrestling Conference contest of the season. SDSU hosts Air Force on Military Appreciation at Frost Arena. Dual time is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
SDSU hosts its first home dual since mid-December. Following today’s dual, only one home dual remains on the schedule.
The Jacks are 3-3 (0-1 Western Wrestling Conference) on the 2011-12 campaign after falling to Nebraska over one month ago.
NDSU SOCCER… North Dakota State University has named Mark Cook as head women's soccer coach. Cook comes to NDSU after serving as the Director of Coaching at the Minnesota Thunder Academy for 11 years. The Minnesota Thunder Academy is one of the premier club programs in the Twin Cities.
In his role as director of coaching, Cook helped grow Minnesota Thunder Academy from a four-team program in 2001 to a 65-team program in 2012. He was responsible for all aspects of the club's operation, including the hiring and training of all coaches, coordinating college recruitment programs, recruiting players for the elite girls program, overseeing all competition and practice schedules and managing the budget. Under his leadership, MTA placed approximately 85% of all club graduates in collegiate soccer programs.
SUMMIT TRACK… North Dakota State's Travis Fitzke and Oakland's Lia Jones were named The Summit League's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Fitzke finished first in the 1-mile run ahead of runners from No. 15 Minnesota at the Jack Johnson Classic. He won the race in a league-best 4:07.10, ranking him 24th in the nation.
Jones won the 5,000-meter run at the Mike Lints Alumni Open. The junior posted a league-best time of 17:09.88, which ranks third in the nation.
SUMMIT SCHOLARS… The Summit League released its Academic All-League Distinguished Scholars for the fall season this week. South Dakota State had 25 student-athletes named to the Distinguished Scholars list.
In total, 272 Summit League student-athletes from men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball were recognized.
EQUESTRIAN SIGN…South Dakota State Head Equestrian Coach Megan Rossiter has signed Lexus Hoffmann to a National Letter of Intent.
Hoffman began riding 15 years ago and started showing in the all-around division more than 10 years ago. In both 2007 and 2008, Hoffman placed in the top-10 in equitation, showmanship and horsemanship at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress and rode to the semi-finalsoHHo in equitation at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association 2011 World Championship.
