BHS GBB…Brandon Valley claimed its 13th win of the season, defeating Brookings 58-31 Thursday night in ESD Conference girls’ basketball at Bob Jostad Gym.
Heidi Hoff had 17 points at halftime, and finished with 26 for the Lynx – Allison Koehn added 13 points. Emily Johnson had eight points, and Kaitlin Kwasniewski six, for the 2-16 Bobcats.
Assistant coach Jason Smidt says the Bobcats struggled offensively. 97634 :23 “get things going”.
The third quarter did in Brookings – the Lynx went on a 17-3 run. 97635 :23 “and ride ‘em”.
Smidt says the Bobcat team in practice is different from the team that plays games. 97636 :17 “happen to you”.
Brookings hosts Sioux Falls Lincoln Saturday afternoon.
The Brookings J-V team won 44-26, while the freshmen fell 49-46.

SDSU SWIMMING… The South Dakota State University men's swimming and diving team broke four school records on day two of the Summit League Championships.
The Jackrabbits are in second place with 243.5 points. Oakland leads with 358 points. Competition resumes Friday morning.
Junior Kyle Ochsner placed second in the 500-yard freestyle Thursday night with a time of 4 minutes, 35.22 seconds, breaking his school-record. Blake Yeager, Alex McLain and Kyle Catani also finished in top eight.Yeager finished fifth in 4:39.57, McLain in sixth with 4:44.10 and Catani finished eighth in 4:48.55.
Sophomore Clark Kocourek placed second in three-meter diving with 269.85 points. Brad Schoreit finished fourth with a score of 264.40. Connor Florand finished fifth with a score of 262.50.
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Yann Desjardins, Phil Albu, Jack Morrow and Wil Hogue placed third with a school-record time of 1:24.17.
Hogue finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in a school-record time of 20.75 seconds. He broke his school record in prelims earlier in the day.
Sophomore Chris Schreier finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley in a school-record time of 1:51.78, beating his old school record of 1:51.95.

The South Dakota State University women's swimming and diving team broke three more school records on day two of the Summit League Championships.
Senior Morgan McLain placed second in the 200-yard individual medley in a school-record time of 2:04.02. McLain broke also broke the school record in the morning with a top time of 2:04.79 seconds in prelims.
Freshman Samantha Fossum placed third in the 500-yard freestyle in Thursday night’s finals with ia school-record time of 4:59.28, breaking Andrea's Budahl time which set in the morning in prelims.
Sophomore Kaylin Caron finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in a school-record time of 24.03, breaking Alex Hoffman's previous school-record by .04 seconds.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ashley Valdez, McLain, Nicole Grimit and Caron finished fourth with a time of 1:36.93.
The women are in second after day two with 215 points. Oakland leads with 369 points.
SDSU WRESTLING… South Dakota State could not overcome the seventh-ranked wrestling team in the country as the Wyoming Cowboys rolled to a 45-0 win.
Senior Nick Flynn put forth a strong effort. After a scoreless first period, Flynn scored a reversal after choosing to be down to start the second period. A third-period escape and riding time advantage evened the score and Flynn was outlasted in overtime, 7-2.
Aaron Pickrel posted another close decision, falling 5-2 at 125 pounds to his nationally-ranked opponent.
SDSU finishes the season with a 4-9 overall record, 0-6 in the conference.
Next up the Jacks head to the West Regional to take on individuals from the other WWC schools for the right to go to the NCAA Championships. The West Regional is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 4, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
