STATE "B" AMATEUR…Brett Scherschligt pitched a four-hit shutout with two strikeouts to help Wynot (Neb.) to a 7-0 win against Akron (Iowa) in a second-round game at the Class B South Dakota state amateur baseball tournament.
Scott Heimes finished the game with three RBIs for the Expos, while Lee Heimes and Chase Rolfes each recorded two hits in the win.
Three Larchwood errors led to three Irene runs to help the Cardinals edge the Diamonds 3-2.
Jack Huether picked up the win for Irene, throwing eight innings and giving up two runs on four hits and six walks while striking out six. Tyler Edler recorded the save to move the Cardinals to 16-11 on the year and into the quarterfinals.

SDSU SOCCER…The South Dakota State soccer teams starts a tough non-conference schedule Friday with an exhibition match at Kansas.
Head coach Lang Wedemeyer hopes those matches prepare the Jackrabbits for a run at the Summit League tournament. 97621 :24 "never played before".

ROOSEVELT-TAYLOR OUT…Sioux Falls Roosevelt basketball boys basketball coach Lee Taylor is resigning that position to become an assistant athletic director at Augustana.
Taylor, who was named head coach at Roosevelt in the spring of 2009, was coming off a state championship season with the Riders.
Taylor, a former assistant basketball coach with the Vikings who graduated from Lake Forest College (Ill.), has been working full time in the admissions department at Augustana for more than a year while also serving as the Riders' coach.

SDGA HOF… Aberdeen native Steve Pelzl will become the 47th person to be inducted into the South Dakota Golf Association Hall of Fame during a ceremony Friday in Aberdeen.
Pelzl is a three-time winner of the SDGA Senior Two-Man Championship, partnering twice with Mike Brummer, of Rapid City, and once with Mark Jorgensen, of Aberdeen — that one coming in 2012 at Westward Ho Country Club in Sioux Falls.
Pelzl is a five-time runner-up in the SDGA Senior Championship, as well as finishing second in both the Mid-Amateur and Men’s Amateur championships. On 10 occasions, Pelzl has reached at least the quarterfinals of the SDGA Match Play Championship.

NAIA FB POLL…The Dakota Wesleyan University football team cracked the top-25 of the NAIA coaches' preseason poll, which was announced Monday.
The Tigers received 72 points in the poll, good for No. 21 in the nation. Last season, DWU finished with an 8-3 record.
Other Great Plains Athletic Conference teams to earn a spot in the poll were Morningside (No. 3) and Northwestern (No. 13).

MEYER MOVIE… Judge Reinhold and Tatum O’Neal will play the lead roles in the movie about former Northern State men’s basketball coach Don Meyer.
The movie is called "My Many Sons" and is based on the coach’s life. Reinhold will play Don Meyer and O’Neal will play Meyer’s wife, Carmen. Producers hope to release the film next March. Shooting for the movie will take 19 days and will include more than 300 extras,
Meyer, 69, died of cancer at his Aberdeen home May 18. Before he retired as the Northern State coach in 2010, Meyer became the winningest men’s basketball coach in NCAA history, going 923-324 in 38 seasons.
