STATE AMATEUR…Renner scored three runs in each of the first, and sixth, innings to defeat the Sioux Falls Brewers 8-5 to regain the state A amateur baseball title Sunday in Sioux Falls.
The Brewers got to the title game Saturday with a 5-3 win over the Sioux Falls Saints. The Saints eliminated Pierre earlier in the day 7-6.
Friday, Renner got to the title game with a 9-4 win over the Brewers. Pierre knocked out Vermillion 3-1.
Alexandria won the B title 4-3 over Winner-Colome. Thomas Gulledge had three hits and Tyson Gau two for Alexandria. Gau pitched a seven-hitter, with two walks and ten strikeouts for the victory. For Winner-Colome, Tarrell Bauld had two hits. Derek Graesser allowed eight hits and eight walks in taking the loss.
Saturday, Alexandria defeated the Parkston Mudcats 8-0, and Winner-Colome defeated Dimock-Emery 6-1 to get to the title matchup.
BCC MEN’S GOLF…The Brookings Country Club men’s golf title was won by Alex Steen, who fired a 71 to edge Eric Hodgson by three shots. James Green came in at 76, with Brian Berkenhoff at 77.
The second flight went to Paul Vugteveen at 75, with Jeremiah Charlson at 79 and Brian Piearson and Jack Ingemanson at 80. Chad Hungerford and Gregg Selberg shot 78 to top the third flight, with Gregg Schroeder at 80 and Rick Salonen at 81.
Dave Gibson and Dave Mix each shot 79 to top the fourth flight, with Matt Yonkovich at 80. George Ust and Randy Honkomp shared first in the fifth flight at 87. Jerry Gross and Kent Kortan were at 88. Tom Richter won the sixth flight at 79, with John Rasmussen at 81 and Allan Shumaker at 85.
BCC ACE… Lucas Hope, age 19, aced the 155-yard, par 3, 7th hole at the Brookings Country Club on Sunday with an 8-iron. It was his second hole-in-one - it was witnessed by Dan, Gretta, and Cohen Beinhorn.
SDSU SOCCER…The South Dakota State women’s soccer team defeated the University of Winnipeg 10-0 in an exhibition contest on Friday night. Stacy Guijarro and Alexa Trakalo both recorded hat tricks in the game.
The format of the game consisted of one 45-minute period and two 25-minute periods.
Elisa Stamatakis, Nicole Inskeep, Blaklee McMillen and Lauren Thormodsgard allowed zero goals on four shots.
The SDSU offense took 31 total shots and 17 of them were on goal.
The Jackrabbits will officially begin the 2013 season next Friday night against Iowa State. The game time is set for 6 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park.
BHS SOCCER…Sioux Falls Washington edged Brookings 2-1 Saturday to open the boys’ soccer season. The match was played at Yankton Trails in Sioux Falls. Brett Washechek scored in the 70th minute for the Bobcats. Washington won the J-V match 2-0.
Abby Pierson scored in the 57th minute to give Brookings a 1-0 win over Washington. Chloe Pierson, Alyssa Tramp and Kaitlyn Bravek scored goals in the J-V team’s 5-1 win.
BHS GIRLS SOCCER…The Brookings girls’ soccer team is getting its season underway.
Head coach Nate Tritle says he wants the Bobcats to shoot, and play, with confidence. 97627 :26 “that builds confidence”.
Tritle says, historically, the Sioux Falls and Rapid City schools are the teams to beat. 97628 :38 “out of routine”.

BLIZZARD…The Brookings Blizzard will bring 30 players into training camp when it begins September third.
Assistant coach Chris Olson says three players have moved on to Division I programs – others went on to Division III teams. About a dozen players age-limited out of the league – meaning only five players from last year’s roster return.
Olson says the Blizzard picked up some quality players in the draft – including one from Sweden. 97629 :27 “to the team”.

The Blizzard will host Aberdeen in an exhibition game September sixth at Larson Ice Center – the annual showcase to kickoff the season takes place mid-month in Blaine, Minnesota.
SDSU GOLF…The South Dakota State golfers had a strong summer – now they’ll return to school and try to keep the roll going this fall.
Several players fared well in tournaments in South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin over the summer. Head coach Jared Baszler says they’ll face a tougher schedule this fall. 97631 :19 “can compete at”.
