RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Many schools in western South Dakota are closed for the day as cleanup continues from a weekend storm that dumped up to 4 feet of snow.
The Monday shutdowns include public schools in Rapid City, Spearfish, Lead and Belle Fourche, as well as Black Hills State University in Spearfish, and South Dakota School of Mines and Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City.
Rapid City Council members plan to meet with public safety officials at mid-day to discuss the record-setting storm and further cleanup efforts.
Meantime, the cleanup is under way in Union County after a tornado hit Jefferson Friday night. At least two otehr twisters were also reported in the southeast South Dakota county. No injuries have been reported. There were also numerous tornadoes reported in Iowa.
