An Arlington man is facing attempted rape and aggravated assault charges
after allegedly attacking a woman at a Brookings bar.

Lt. Derrick Powers says the 22-year-old Brookings woman was in the restroom
at the 9 Bar downtown at about 1:30 Saturday morning. A man she did not know
came in after her, hit her in the head with a beer bottle, and pulled her into a
bathroom stall. She resisted and fought back and was struck several times with
the bottle. She continued to struggle, was able to get the bottle away from the
man and threw it at him. The man then fled the scene and police were called.

Their investigation led to Arlington and the arrest on Saturday afternoon
of a 22-year-old man. The Kingsbury County Sheriff's Department assisted.
The man was taken to the Brookings County Jail and charged with the two
felonies.

The woman had bumps and abrasions but did not receive medical treatment
at the scene.
