A Brookings woman is arrested for allegedly striking a police officer
trying to offer assistance.

Police were called shortly after 1:30 Tuesday afternoon for a possible
overdose.  The ambulance was also called to the scene on the 500
block of 15th St. South.

When police arrived, the woman was sitting in a vehicle.  An
officer attempted to help and the woman reportedly jumped out of
the car and started yelling. The officer tried to subdue her and she
allegedly hit him in the face. He was not hurt.

The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment. After her
release, she was arrested for simple assault of a law enforcement
officer and taken to the county jail.
