Yankton man charged with attempted murder gets plea deal
YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - A Yankton man accused of trying to kill his girlfriend has pleaded guilty to lesser charges in a deal with prosecutors.
Curtis Wilson on Thursday pleaded guilty to two aggravated assault counts, and prosecutors dismissed attempted murder and kidnapping charges.
Authorities alleged that Wilson pointed a rifle at his girlfriend in April 2013 and pulled the trigger, but the gun had no bullets. Wilson then allegedly fired a bullet into a neighbor's home when the woman fled there for safety. The neighbor was treated for minor injuries from flying debris.
Wilson during his court appearance Thursday blamed his actions on a combination of alcohol and antipsychotic medication.
He could face up to 30 years in prison when he's sentenced on July 21.
