10/11: Why I Hate MONDAYS!

OK...so it really stinks to be a Green Bay Packer fan today. Just about the time that I feel OK about Aaron Rodgers being our new quarterback, they lose (and lose big) to the Vi-queens. It particularly stinks to have to come to work the day following that loss as a majority of my staff are Vi-queens fans. UGH! The game was UGLY on both sides really. The score should have been a lot worse IF the Queens would have found their offense. The Packers offensive line was awful and I did feel pretty bad for Rodgers as I really don't recall one play in which he was still standing on his feet after throwing a pass. The only thing that actually kept us in the game was our defensive backs...couldn't stop the run but manage to keep us in the game by picking off 3 passes. Who even needs an offense with that??? Yeah, right.
In this Vi-queen nation, it's really kind of fun to remain a loyal Packer fan. I wasn't always one. I can even remember a time when I was a kid watching the Vikings play against the "guys in the ugly green and gold" uniforms...who would ever want to wear those colors together anyways! How did it happen? Adam Timmerman. Great guy, went to school with he and his wife Jana, former Packer. When he left I decided to stay with the Packers because I, like everyone else, loved Brett Favre. Now that he is gone too, I remain a Packer fan just because its fun to gloat about when they beat the Vi-queens. Until today.....

31/10: Happy Halloween!

In a way, I feel sorry for the kids growing up today. Gone are the days of trick or treating for 5 hours straight with your friends (no parents) covering every house within 3 miles. Gone are the days of wearing your costume to school and having the entire day dedicated to Halloween parties. Remember those days? I do! Boy did I ever make a haul!
The countdown to Halloween has been on at my house for 2 weeks. Last night, they were so excited I went into Brody's room at 10pm to make sure he was sleeping and he was sitting straight up in bed, wide awake wondering if it was time to trick or treat yet. Could have been the 2 packs of Pop Rocks that he ate before bed time???? He finally did go to bed only to wake me up at 6am this morning with a "Boo, it's Halloween mommy!"
So we have pretty much had 3 Halloween parties/events so far and haven't even hit the streets to go trick or treating. Last weekend, we had our traditional Halloween party at Jan and Denny Welbig's farm. I tell you what, they go all out! The kids have a blast! Hay ride down to the interstate, potluck in the heated garage, haunted house in the barn followed by pinatas. The next day, we went to the Penny Carnival/Trick or Treat Fest at Frost Arena. Today, we have a Pumpkin Party at Brody's pre-school followed by the Halloween party at their daycare. OK...so that is 4 Halloween parties so far - yes, 4 - before we even ring one doorbell! Maybe I don't feel so bad for them after all...and more than anything, we all know who ends up eating all their candy!!!

My first blog...ever! Why I have always wanted to have a blog, I really don't know. It's not that I have much to say - yeah, right! For those of you that have worked in radio, you know how crazy this business can get...especially right now in the midst of an election. Life at Brookings Radio is a lot like a daily sitcom. One of my sellers, Lyn Fergen, actually gave me a journal to write about all the funny, crazy or strange things that happen here; usually on a daily basis! So, I intend to use this blog to allow our listeners a sneak peak inside what happens at Brookings Radio. If nothing happens here, my personal life is also somewhat like a sitcom (for those of you who know my husband Derrick there is usually always a "Derrick story"). So between the two, I should have some great content! So welcome to my blog! Just a little bit about me...I have been working in radio for over 15 years now! I am a Brookings High School Grad, in fact I am currently planning my 20 year reunion for next summer! Please refrain from old jokes...as well as an SDSU grad. My husband Derrick works for the City. We have 2 children, Ainsley who just turned 7 and is a first grader at Medary Elementary and Brody, who is 4 and in pre-school at First Lutheran. The kids, specifically Ainsley, are just getting started with activities so we are enjoying that for now. I hope that you check back often - for those of you that know me, I always seem to have something to say!
