PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard says four South Dakota
counties dealing with Missouri River flooding will get direct
federal aid.
Stanley, Yankton, Clay and Union counties face serious flooding
because of record releases from swollen reservoirs on the river.
Daugaard says the direct federal assistance means the counties will
get help for emergency protective measures that might not otherwise
be available.
Daugaard says Stanley County also has been added to an earlier
presidential disaster declaration for 28 other counties hit by
spring flooding.
In Pierre, residents are being warned to stay off levees.
and the Fort Pierre post office is being relocated.
At Dakota Dunes, officials have closed one Interstate 29 exit
and are asking motorists to avoid a second so residents can prepare
to leave their homes by Thursday.
