Flooding Will Displace Wildlife

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - An extension specialist is reminding pet
and livestock owners in South Dakota that rising rivers could
displace wildlife and put them in contact with domestic animals or
people.
Veterinarian Russ Daly said that increases the chances of rabies
and the spread of certain ticks and fleas from wild animals to
pets. Daly said some disease such as tularemia and plague can be
passed through fleas and ticks.
He said livestock should be watched for signs of rabies.
