SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - State officials estimate the flooding
threat on the Missouri River in South Dakota has forced nearly
7,000 people to temporarily relocate.
The Department of Transportation says most of the displacement is
in Pierre, Fort Pierre and Dakota Dunes.
Spokeswoman Kristi Sandal said totals from the three communities
are 6,805 people and 2,006 homes or businesses.
All three communities have built levees to protect from a rising
Missouri River that's being fed with record discharges from the
reservoirs.
