A Brookings-area National Guard unit, the 139th Brigade
Support Battalion will be activated today.
The Activation Ceremony is at 2:00 p.m. in the
Performing Arts Center located on the South Dakota State
University Campus.
Governor Dennis Daugaard is among the scheduled
speakers today.
The 139th Brigade is made up of soldiers from the
Brookings, Redfield, Miller, Mitchell, Rapid City, and
Sioux Falls Areas.
There will also be a parade out of town for the 139th
on Sunday at about 8 A.M. The unit will head from the
Armory to Main Avenue then to 6th St. and on to the
interstate. The public is encouraged to line the route
to help send them off.
