Brookings Boy Hurt in Car/Bike Accident

A Brookings boy is hurt when the bike he's riding is hit by a car and pushed along the street.

Police Lt. Derrick Powers says it was reportedat 6:00 o'clock Thursday evening. He says a car driven by
49-year-old Carl Fahrenwald of Brookings was pullingout of a parking lot on the 500 block of Main Ave. South. He did not see the bicyclist who was northbound on the sidewalk.

The bike rider, 10-year-old Gage Bechtold, saw thecar but could not stop in time. The car hit the bike and it was caught underneath. Bechtold and the bike were pushed along the street for about 40-feet before Fahrenwald stopped. He said he had heard something but didn't know he had hit anything.

The boy was taken by ambulance to the Brookings Hospital with unknown injuries.
