Five Russian leaders are set to arrive in Brookings
Saturday June 18th and stick around the area for
about a week.
The leaders are part of the Open World Program in
which they'll experience American-style democracy
at the local level.
Executive Director of the South Dakota World Affairs
Council Harriet Swedlund says Brookings is a great
place for the Russian leaders to visit because we are
hospitable people that like to share our culture.
Swedlund says the indivduals are young political
leaders trying to get a better understanding of
American government.
She says the trip will benefit both the Russian visitors
and the Brookings community.
Swedlund says there will be a public reception for the
delegates and community to meet and interact on June
20th at 5:30 in the Brookings Public Library.
The delegation will begin its introduction to South
Dakota with a stop at Kristi Noem's office in Washington
on the 17th.
