SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota officials say sales for
lottery scratch tickets are the highest since the first year of the
operation.
Sales from about 600 retailers should total about $22 million
for the fiscal year, which ends this month. That's up 9 percent
from last year.
The state sold $31 million in tickets when the game was
introduced in 1987.
Profits from the state's video lottery are going in the other
direction. Revenue is down 17 percent since November, when
a statewide smoking ban went into effect.
