Brookings Police taser a suspect who had allegedly
beaten a man unconscious.

Police Lt. Derrick Powers says it happened shortly before
3 o'clock sunday morning near the intersection of 3rd St.
and Main Avenue.

Powers says witnesses reported an argument between
2 men. The suspect reportedly hit the other man
several times while he was on the ground, leaving him
bloody and unconscious.

Police located the suspect walking nearby and began
to question him. The man was uncooperative and was
handcuffed. When he was being put into the patrol
car, the suspect reportedly tried to headbutt an
officer. The taser was used and the suspect was
placed in the car.

The 21-year-old Bruce man has been charged with
simple assault, threatening a law officer and
obstruction.

The victim, a 40-year-old Brookings man, was taken
to the Brookings hospital for treatment.
