Some Travelers in Pierre Area Being Rerouted

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - East-west traffic is being detoured around
the flood-threatened cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre.
The South Dakota Transportation Department says motorists on
Highways 14 and 34 are being rerouted via Highways 1804 and 1806
over the Oahe Dam.
Water from heavy rains is being pumped out from inside emergency
levees built up in the two cities to hold back the flooding
Missouri River. Officials say crews are working to keep water off
highways and streets as much as possible.
Transportation officials say the heavy rains also have caused
flash flooding on numerous roads in central and eastern South
Dakota, creating hazardous travel conditions.
