The Brookings County Commission votes to send a
letter of intent indicating their plan to fully fund a
4H position.
Cuts to extension mean the state will fund only a
halftime adviser. It's up to each county to decide if
they want to go further.
The commissioners earlier said they would back
a fulltime position. Extension has requested a letter
from each county indicating their plans. Commission
Assistant Stephanie Ellwein says they're trying to get
a written commitment from each county so they know
the number of personnel they'll need to hire.
Commissioner Dennis Falken says their
commitment really goes beyond half of the advisers'
pay. He says it also means they'll have to pay for
support staff and programs.
Extension wanted the letter by July 1st. The Commisison
voted 5-0 to indicate their support for a fulltime
4H adviser.
