PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Transportation officials say
east-west traffic no longer is being detoured around the
flood-threatened cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre.
Officials on Tuesday rerouted motorists on Highways 14 and 34
via Highways 1804 and 1806 over the Oahe Dam because
of flooding. Water from heavy rains was being pumped out from
emergency levees built up in the two cities to hold back the
flooding Missouri River.
Officials say floodwaters have receded and crews have been able
to pump water off the roadways.
