High water is causing problems at Meadow Creek Golf
Course in Volga.
The water went up within a few days of 4 culverts being
put in under County Road 11. Brookings County has
installed four 48-inch culverts under the road to allow
water to flow out of Lake Sinai.
Meadow Creek Course Superintendent Josh Renkly says it's
a disaster. He says there are 4 bridges under water and only
one hole on the course can be played without crossing a
bridge. He says hole 4 is the worst and is completley shut
down right now.
He says they've actually had a couple of bridges built and
they've built up several cart paths so people can play the
course.
Renkly says there's no doubt this water is coming
from Sinai. He says 3-inches of rainfall will flood the bridges
for a day or two, but the 20-inches of water over the cart path
is definetly from Sinai.
The Brookings County Commission will hold a special meeting
on Tuesday at the request of citizens. Renkly believes they're
releasing too much water too fast.
The County Highway Superintendent had recommended going
with two 48-inch culverts. The commission voted 3-2 to
put in four.
