RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Authorities say a South Dakota man with
a child strapped in a safety seat in his pickup truck led them on a
chase in which speeds topped 100 mph.
The incident happened Thursday morning between Hermosa and the
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Officers used pepper spray to subdue
the 28-year-old man when he finally came to a stop on U.S. Highway
18 near Oglala.
Highway Patrol Capt. Kevin Karley says the child was not harmed.
The suspect was arrested on initial charges of speeding,
reckless driving and resisting arrest but could face additional
charges in both tribal and state court.
