SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard says a federal
judge's granting of a preliminary injunction preventing a new South
Dakota abortion law from taking effect was not a surprise.
The law requires women seeking abortions to face a three-day
waiting period and undergo counseling at pregnancy help centers
that discourage abortion.
Daugaard in a statement says that he believes that everyone
agrees that it's a laudable goal to reduce abortions by encouraging
consideration of other alternatives.
The Republican says the law's three-day waiting period gives
women time to reflect and make good choices.
