Elkton Storm

Listen to the story:

The storm hit Elkton at about 4:00 o'clock Friday afternoon. Winds may have hit 85 mph, tearing
through the town, downing trees and power lines.

Dozens of huge trees have been toppled, branches are snapped off and even the tops of
once-stately evergreens have been ripped away.

Some of the huge trees toppled onto homes, damaging roofs and breaking windows.
Other trees and branches crashed onto cars and trucks.

County Emergency Management Director, Todd Struwe, says he has not heard of any
injuries. He believes straight-line winds caused the damage.  Struwe says there appears
to be damage across the southeast corner of Brookings County.

He says the priority is to get streets open so electrical crews can get in and restore power.

Sheriff Marty Stanwick says he beleives the County will help the City of Elkton with the cleanup.
