Heavy Rain Overnight Causes Travel Problems in the Pierre and Aberdeen Areas

State Transportation officials say east- and west-bound traffic
on U.S. Highways 14 and 34 was detoured around Pierre-Fort Pierre,
and motorists coming into Fort Pierre on U.S. Highway 83
experienced delays due to flooding on the highway through town.
The National Weather Service says as much as 4.75 inches of rain
was reported in the Aberdeen area, leading to street flooding north
of the city.
Both cities had a rainy June, with precipitation in Aberdeen 1.2
inches above normal and rainfall in Pierre nearly 5 inches above
the norm.
