SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A 28-year-old Sioux Falls man was taken
into custody after a police chase that ended with a standoff in a
field.
Authorities say officers on Monday afternoon responded to a
report of a man stalking and threatening a female, and the man fled
in a van when they arrived. He later abandoned the vehicle and ran
into a field.
A SWAT team, crisis negotiators, sheriff's officers and a
National Guard helicopter were called in when officers were told
the man had a shotgun and was sending threatening text messages to
family members from the field.
The man was arrested about five hours after the incident began,
on several charges including stalking while violating a protection
order and eluding police.
