The Brookings Outdoor Learning Center will be home to a
public television show and they'll also receive a half-million
dollar anonymous donation.
The center is in the works for the Brookings Nature Park
and will be home to archery, pistol and rifle ranges.
Outdoor Learning Center Board Member Randy Hanson
says they've reached a five-year deal to be the home of
"Nature Adventures with Terri and Todd." Hanson says the
PBS show currently airs in five states and they hope to
become nationwide. He says they will mention Brookings
and the Learning Center in their shows.
Hanson says the donation will be given as the last
half-million to build the center. He says they still have more
than $1-million they need to raise although several gifts
are pending. He also hopes the county will provide some
financial support.
County Commissioner Don Larson believes they can receive
national attention for this project. He was on a panel at the
National Press Club in Washington, D.C. where he mentioned
the project and received postive feedback from the Secretary
of Agriculture and other administration officials.
The Outdoor Learning Center will be built on nearly
four acres of nature park land donated by the city of
Brookings.
The County Commission did not discuss financial support
today.
