SD Woman Pleads Guilty in Hammer-Throwing Case

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota woman accused of
concocting a story about men dressed in black hitting her
5-month-old daughter in the head with a hammer has pleaded guilty
in federal court.
U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says 27-year-old Elizabeth Red Owl
of Pine Ridge pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony, a charge
that means she lied to authorities. The maximum punishment is three
years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Authorities say Red Owl made up the story to cover for another
woman who had thrown a hammer at her and hit her daughter instead
last October.
Red Owl is to be sentenced Oct. 17.
