RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - One of the three men convicted in the
2000 murder of 19-year-old Chester Poage in South Dakota puts much
of the blame for the killing on the man who was executed for the
crime, Elijah Page.
The third man, Briley Piper, is being resentenced for his role
after the state Supreme Court said a jury and not a judge should
decide his fate. A judge earlier sentenced the Alaska man to death,
the same fate as Page.
Darrell Hoadley is serving life in prison for his role. He
testified Thursday that Piper's role in Poage's killing was not as
great as he had previously said. Hoadley said much of what he told
authorities earlier was a lie aimed at getting a lighter sentence.
