RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Family and friends gathered Wednesday to
say goodbye to a Rapid City soldier who died while fighting in
Afghanistan.
Army Staff Sgt. Lex Lewis was killed July 15 when insurgents
attacked his unit in Farah Province.
Officials have scheduled a military burial at 10 a.m. Thursday
at Black Hills NationalCemetery near Sturgis.
Forty-year-old Lewis was a cavalry scout with the 1st Squadron,
10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry
Division from Fort Carson, Colo., working in support of Operation
Enduring Freedom.
Lewis had previously deployed to Iraq twice and had only been in
Afghanistan for a month.
