The City is moving forward with plans for new signs at
key entry points into Brookings. The concept also
includes new way-finding signs and new signs at major
parks.
The plan is to improve the look of the city as people
enter town. On 6th St., it may include trees in the median
and along both sides of the road as well as new signs.
It also includes new signs on Interstate 29, at Medary
Avenue and more.
Community Development Director Mike Struck says
it's a 5-year plan and they'll begin work this year on the
major signs. They also hope to start work on park and
Swiftel signs.
Total cost of the project is estimated at just under $1.9
million but Mayor Tim Reed says thanks to a donation,
the city's share is much less. He says the city's cost will
be about $600-thousand.
The plan is to award bids for the first stage of the
work on August 23rd.
