Man Sentenced for Tax Fraud

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota man convicted of nearly
two dozen tax fraud and other financial crimes has been sentenced
to nearly six years in federal prison and more than $146,000 in
restitution and court costs.
U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says 54-year-old Thomas Kelley of
Salem will spend five years on supervised release after the end of
his term of five years and 10 months behind bars.
A jury in May 2010 found Kelley guilty of filing a false income
tax return, impeding the Internal Revenue Service, evading taxes,
failing to file tax returns and passing fictitious U.S. Treasury
bonds and notes.
Kelley failed to show at his sentencing last August, prompting a
four-month, multistate search by authorities. He was arrested in
Minnesota and convicted of failure to appear.
