PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - With August's arrival, state troopers are
reminding bikers and motorists to use extra care as they share the
road.
South Dakota is entering the heart of the annual Sturgis
Motorcycle Rally season.
The state recorded 27 fatal accidents involving motorcycles last
year.
More than a third of those fatal crashes occurred in West River
counties during what is considered "Rally Time" - the roughly
two-week period starting the first week of August.
South Dakota Highway Patrol Sgt. Rick Miller says bikers and
motorists can increase their chances of a safe trip if they make an
extra effort to be aware of each other and respect each other's
presence on the road.
The official dates of the 2011 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally are
Monday, Aug. 8 through Sunday, Aug. 14.
