Due to flooding problems and campus encroachment
SDSU has decided to relocate the Cow/Calf Research
Unit.

A new facility will be located 10 miles West and North
of the Brookings campus near Volga.

Extension Beef Specialist Cody Wright says the new
site will take a few years to build and will include
640 acres of land. He says the land has no builidings
so they'll be starting with a clean slate.

Plans for the new location include state-of the art
facilities, a calving barn, replicated pastures for
grazing management research and much more.

Wright says the relocation will be benifecial to
the students, because they'll be exposed to the outside
workforce and work in a state of the art facility.

He says as far as funding goes there are many ways
they're handling it, including an auction August 18th at
Dakotafest. He says you may contact him be phone or
e-mail with donations at anytime as well.

Wright says they do not have a firm number on the price of
the new facility yet, but says it will likely cost several
million dollars.
