RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A Rapid City church near the site of a shootout that killed two police officers held a candlelight vigil Monday night for the second victim.
People gathered at the New Beginnings Church in the northern part of the city to remember 27-year-old Officer Nick Armstrong. He died Sunday, five days after the shooting that authorities say happened during a routine stop.
A public viewing and funeral for Armstrong is scheduled Thursday. City offices are being closed so employees can attend.
A public viewing and funeral were held over the weekend for 28-year-old Officer James Ryan McCandless, who was killed in the Aug. 2 shooting. A third officer who was shot, 39-year-old Tim Doyle, is recovering.
The alleged shooter, 22-year-old Daniel Tiger, was shot by police and died a day later.
