SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A Sioux Falls man accused of severely beating the 2-month-old daughter of his girlfriend in a fit of frustration has pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault and child abuse charges.
Richard Chase, age 22, could face up to 70 years in prison if convicted.
Court documents say the baby suffered brain hemorrhaging, broken ribs and bruises in the July 18 incident. Police spokesman Sam Clemens says the infant is still recovering.
Chase is jailed on $25,000 bond.
